Lieutenant R.R. Hartry was a member of the Seaforth Collegiate Institute Cadets, and also was the acting Sergeant Major of the 33rd Battalion under Colonel Alex Wilson, Seaforth, Ontario.
Lieutenant R.R. Hartry was transferred from the 70th Battalion to the 91st Battalion as Captain, again transferring to the 186th Kent Battalion when he was promoted to Major. He embarked for overseas March 26th,1917, with the 186th Battalion, reverting to Lieutenant to cross to France about June 1st, 1917, attached to the 18th Battalion.
