Robert enlisted in the RCAF and went overseas as a WAG (Wireless Air Gunner) and served on a Wellington bomber. He was returned to Canada during the war, he was reported returning to Thamesville with his ‘war bride’ Josephine (nee Davis). Robert served as a gunnery instructor and later as Flying Control Officer until 1945 when he was discharged.

After the war Robert enrolled at Acaida University graduating with a BA in history in 1947 and an MA in history the following year. He remained in Nova Scotia for a few years teaching but re-entered the RCAF and served as a supply officer and then as a air traffic controller in Canada and France, finally retiring from the Air Force in 1964, and moved to England where he taught history in a secondary school.

He returned to Canada in 1969 teaching history and French in Barrington, NS. In 1974 he married Mary (Callaway) Everett. He was survived by his wife, step-daughters Sarah, Rosemary (Graham) Scott.

Robert passed away 25 October, 2011 at Bridgewater, NS. in his 94 year.

Supplemental Information Son of Francis Henry Harris and Clara Adelaide Willson Harris (Pickard) Born on 3/03/1917 at the family farm on the River Road, Howard Twsp., Kent Co., ON. He attended Puddleford school and the Chatham Collegiate Institute graduating with his senior matriculation in June of 1937. Robert then went on to enroll in teachers training in London Normal School and graduated there in May of 1938. He first taught in a one room school (grades 1 – 8) at Selton, Kent Co. he was teaching at the Puddleford school when he enlisted in the RCAF.
