Reported returning from overseas duty aboard the troopship Ile de France for Halifax, NS. CDN 4/08/45. Arrived in Chatham from overseas duty 8 August, 1945. Gnr. Haley had spent the better part of eighteen month in hospital suffering from a fractured skull. As a member of the 1st Army Tank Corps he had been in action about a month in Italy when he was wounded a result of an enemy shell in January of 1944. Russell was immediately evacuated to England for medical treatment. He will be staying with his aunt Mrs. Luddy Ross. CDN 8/08/45. Reported volunteered for the Pacific theatre August, 1945.
