Born in Hamilton and was working at the Appleford Paper Products in that city before moving to Blenheim. The son of Mrs. Leah Haley of Talbot St., Blenheim, ON. His mother moved to Hamilton, living at 19 Fife St., Hamilton, ON. , his sister Mrs. David Cains also lives in Hamilton, a brother Gordon lived in London, ON. Earl had been living in Blenheim for about five years, working with S. J. Hutton at a service station on Talbot St. West. CDN 16/09/42

‘Red’ enlisted during a recruiting campaign in 1940, age about 28 years when he signing up with the Essex Scottish, where he trained and finally went overseas with the Scottish. He married in Scotlandabout a year before the raid.

Reported as a casualty on the Dieppe Raid in the Windsor Star of 16 September, 1942.
