Born in Chatham, ON in 1918 the son of Mrs. Valerie L. Groome of 207 Raleigh St., Chatham, ON.

He enlisted in July of 1941, Douglas was to have reported from service at No. 1 District Depot, London, ON. in August of 1941, along with C. D. Stoliker.. CDN 25/0841. He trained in Canada for fifteen months prior to leaving for England. Reported wounded and returning on the hospital ship “Lady Nelson” expected to arrive in Canada 15/01/1946. Douglas was discharged from service in April of 1946. CDN 12/01/46, CFF-FD44, IODE(P), CCI-RH.
