Born in England 12/02/1904 and emigrated to Canada when he was four years old. The son of Fred Grocott of Chatham, ON. The brother of Cpl. George S. (RCAF and Cpl. Cyril First Kent’s  – serving overseas after a transfer to the Elgin Regt. Married Gladys Elizabeth and a family of two daughters Donna Jean and Mary Joyce and a son Allan at home, they were living on 51 Sheldon Ave., Chatham.

Sidney was reported in the CDN 14/09/42 as being home on a short leave with his family. He was returning to Nova Scotia at the end of his leave. He would spend two and a half years overseas.

In November of 1944, then fighting in France received the Efficiency Medal. CDN 3/11/44

Served with the Kent Regiment for twelve years as Sergeant Major.

From June 1940 to August 1942 was on shore patrol along coast of Nova Scotia and Cape Breton, with Elgin Regiment (Infantry) Went overseas with the Elgin Tank Regiment and landed in England August 1942. Sidney was reported in the CDN 14/09/42 as being home on a short leave with his family. He was returning to Nova Scotia at the end of his leave. Married and with a family they were living on Sheldon Ave., in Chatham. Was on defence work until June 1944. Went to Normandy and was transferred to Germany.

Transferred to Occupation Force from May 1945 to December 1945. Returned to Canada on Queen Elizabeth. He was returning to Nova Scotia at the end of his leave. Was awarded the Canadian Efficiency Medal, Pt and 2nd Class; 1939 to 1945 Star, C.V.S.M. with Clasp, the defence Medal, and the France and German Star. Spent two weeks in Belgium hospital. Was blown out of a tank and was the sole survivor.

Discharged January 26th, 1946.

After the he worked as a surveyor and draftsman for Union Gas, from which he retired . He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 28 serving in many capacities there. 

Sidney passed away 7 January, 1978.
