The son of Fred Grocott of Chatham. The brother of Cyril Ivan (Provost) and Sidney Walter Frederick (CSM – Essex Scottish). Married and the father of four children. The family was living at 171 Cornhill St., Chatham, ON. 

George enlisted in the RCAF in 1941 with the ground crew.  He went overseas in June 1941.  He was involved in wireless communication and radar aboard aircraft. He was on operational service in England and North Africa.

Served about seven years with the Kent Regiments.
