Regimental number: 213599. Born 12/12/1897 at Toronto, ON. He had been living in Gladstone, Michigan, USA. The son of Warren Audred Gould of Tilbury, ON. A farm labourer. Reference:  RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box:3677-27, Item #428499, PDF: B3677-SO27.

Attestation: 10/01/16, living in Tilbury, ON. Age 18 years, Height: 5’ 5” or 8 ¾”, Complexion: Ruddy, Eyes: Gray-brown, Hair: Dark. Medical examination: 10/01/16 at Tilbury to 99th Batt. Next of kin: Warren Gould.

He went overseas aboard the S.S. Olympic sailing from Halifax 31/05/16 arriving in England 8/06/16 with the 99th Bn. in June of 1916 and crossed over to France in August of 1916. While in action on the Somme in September of 1916 he was reported wounded in the right Groin and was hospitalized at No.6 General Hospital at Rouen, France. Owen was moved through the medical system 19/09/16 he was at No.2 Conv. Depot. 4/10/16 – Rouen,  No. 6 General Hospital – Rouen until 27/09/16.  He was then sent to Shorncliff , England for more training. He returned to the ‘firing line’ 24/11/17.

 

Owen was admitted to No.12 Camp Harfleur 4 10/16 for observation. Transferred to 4th General Hospital at Denmark Hill, SE London 13/10/16 for observation and transferred to Granville Canadian Special Hospital – Ramsgate for a nervous debility from which he was discharged 17/01/17.

He was then sent to Shorncliff , England for more training. He returned to the ‘firing line’ 24/11/17.  April of 1918, during the Battle of Arras, he was wounded a second time. This time for a GSW in the left hip. Admitted to 47 Casualty Clearing Station. 4/04/18 to the 47th General Hospital at Le Treport.  11/05/18 discharged to Base Depot  and was set to  26 General Hospital – Estaples and Alexandria Military Hospital  for two months but “returned to finish the fight”. TT6/02/19 

Owen was admitted to the No.10 Canadian General Hospital – Boscombe from 14/11/18 to 2/12/1918 due to the Spanish Flu. Transferred to the hospital in Hastings and was discharged as a “Good Recovery” 9/12/18

Owen was returned to Canada in the S.S. Aquitania arriving in Halifax 25/01/1919. His address at discharge was Boyne City, Michigan. He was granted a furlough with substance grant to 13/02/1919  He was discharged  from HMS – for demobilization 19/02/1919.

It was reported to the Dept. of Veterans affairs that Owen passed away 24 April, 1976 at Tilbury East Twsp, ON.
