Pte. Gerald Gormely served in the Pay Office of the 186th Battalion, leaving for overseas the latter part of March 1917. He trained at Bramshott Camp until June, 1917, when he was admitted to Hospital at Bramshott, and later at Epsom. He returned to duty December 1st, in the Pay Office at Bramshott Camp, transferring to the Canadian Army Pay Corps. February 28th, 1918, he was again transferred to the 4th Reserve, and employed in the Pay office at Witley until December 18th, 1918, returning to Canada January 25th, 1919.

“During May of 1917 he began to feel badly, due to thinks, to over work and climatic conditions. Lost weight, but no definite ailment diagnosed. During the spring of 1918 he began to pick up again an at present was feeling quite as well as on enlistment. General physical development is below average. No definite abnormally discharged. His weight is 2lbs. more than on enlistment. Soldier has received with no impairment or disability due to service – Discharge – Certificate – 186th service in England. 21 yrs., 6′. – Discharge: 18/02/1919 at London, ON.
