The son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Ernest Glassford of 100 Murray St., Chatham, ON.; brother of Alvah Maitland.

Prior to enlistment William ‘Bill’ work at the Ontario Steel Products in Chatham.

He trained at London, Toronto, Valleyfield, PQ. Mt.Pleasant, PEI. and graduated at McDonald, Manitoba. He arrived in England in late July of 1944. 

The CDN 13/02/45 reported that he met his brother William while both were in England the boys had not seen each other for nearly two years.

Served overseas thirteen months and made seventeen fights over Germany. Promoted to the rank of Flight-Sergeant.

Discharged October 11th, 1945.
