Glassford, Alvan Maitland

 

 The son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Ernest Glassford of 100 Murray St., Chatham, ON.; brother of George William R279168. The husband of Gwendalyn (nee Holmes) they married in August 1942 at St. James Anglican Church, Wallaceburg. CDN 17/08/42  Alvah returned to his duties in Ottawa.  Gwendalyn stayed for some time before moving to Chatham living at 182 William St., South, Chatham.  

Prior to enlisting Maitland was a member of the Chatham Post Office. He trained at Ottawa and Trenton, ON. as well as Prince George and Prince Rupert BC. He arrived in England on Christmas Day 1944.  

Served overseas for one year with the Postal Corps.

The CDN 13/02/45 reported that he met his brother William while both were in England the boys had not seen each other for nearly two years.

Discharged 13th, 1945.
