Lieutenant Archibald Gillies left Halifax for overseas March 26th, 1917, training with the 4th Reserve Battalion, Bramshott Camp until he proceeded to France August 19th, 1917, to the 7th Battalion Canadian Railway Troops. He served with this unit until it was broken up at Knotty Ash Camp, England in March 1919. He embarked from England  March 19th, 1919, arriving at Halifax March 27th, 1919.

Lieutenant Archibald Gillies was placed on Reserve Officers’ list and was discharged March 29th, 1919, at Toronto, Ontario
