Born 4 July, 1913 at Wallaceburg, ON. The son of John C. and Delina M.(nee Boyer) Gilhuly of 322 William St., Wallaceburg, ON., brother of John, Harold, Pte. Francis RCAMC. Mary Margaret. (Delphine), and Dorothea of 322 William St., Wallaceburg, Ontario. Educated at Our Lady of Help and Wallaceburg High School. After high school Gordon found work following his father to the Wallaceburg Brass Co.
In August of 1940 Gordon went to Chatham and enlisted in the 1st Kent Regt.,He had been sent overseas to take a special course in England and returned to Canada as an instructor. CDN 21/03/45. He trained at No. 12 BTC in Chatham then Niagara-on-the-Lake, Terrace, BC and London, ON. before going overseas 10 Nov. 1944, transferring to the Algonquin Regt. He trained at No. 12 BTC in Chatham then Niagara-on-the-Lake, Terrace, BC and London, ON. before going overseas 10 Nov. 1944.
While serving with the Algonquin Regt. near the German-French border, Pte. Gilhuly was fatally wounded by a German snipers bullet.
Age: 33, KIA – Date of Death: 08/03/1945.

His sister Dorothea became Sister Dorothy, an Ursuline nun commented that she never thought that he would not return. His sister Mary Ann would name her eldest son Gordon Joseph.
