The son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Geroux of 188 Forest St., Chatham, ON. Born in Chatham. The brother of Harvey and Archie serving overseas with the Highland Light Infantry and another brother Wilfred in the Merchant Marine.  Prior to his enlistment he was employed at the Glover’s Dairy in Chatham.

Herman enlisted in June of 1941 with the First Kent’s. He trained in London, Halifax  an British Columbia. He went overseas in 1943 transferring to the Highland Light Infantry and stormed the Normandy beach on D-Day. He had been fighting in Belgium and France before his injury.

He was married to Nettie living at 64 Dover St., Chatham. It was to his wife that an official cable came to inform her that Herman had been WIA in Belgium. The cable stated he was wounded on 14 October, suffering a fracture of the right elbow joint. Herman and Nettie had four children at that time.
