The son of James (late) and  Sarah Gardner, (mother) 38 Elizabeth St., Chatham, ON. she later moved to 64 Barthe St., Chatham.  Occupation: Plasterer. Served in the 24th Kent Regt. prior to his enlistment in the CEF. Attestation: 8/09/15 at Chatham, ON.

Apparent Age: 20 yrs. 10 mths., Height: 5’ 7 ½” , Girth: 35 ½ “, Weight: 145# , Complexion: Fair, Eyes: Blue, Hair: Light Brown. Medical Exam “Fit”, Scar the length right side of neck. To 70th Bn. O/S. to the 58th Bn. 18/06/16, Left for unit 20/06/16, 58th Bn. 1915 Sept 8, 1916 to May 1916 with the 70th .

Sailed from Halifax, NS. aboard the S.S. Lapland 24/04/16.   

Louis landed in France 18/06/17. 20/06/16 his unit arrived for duty 21/06/16 – Appointed L/Cpl. – Taken on Strength to the 58th Battalion. 19/06/16, Left for ‘Field’. TOS: 30/06/16 on Str., 12/12/16 Apt.   KIA 12/04/17 age 22 years. COR with the 58th,  at Vimy Ridge. Buried at THELUS MILITARY CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France. Photo of Grave marker at CVWM.

His mother Mrs. Sarah Gardner would move to Windsor, to 27 Church St., Windsor, ON. She would have received the Memorial Cross, Memorial Scroll and plaque. (date unreadable).
