186th and 18th Bn.  RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 3387 – 46, Item: 406801, PDF: B3387-S046. Born 15 or 16/04/ 1898 in Dover Twsp., Kent Co., ON. The son of Thomas and Cecil Bernice (Nettie) Galloway, living at 56 Degge St. Chatham, Brother to Henry C., Eliza and Mary.   William was living at 71 King St., Chatham, ON.  Prior to his enlistment Glen was employed by the William Gray & Sons – Campbell Co. as a Trimmer, making $2.25 a day.

He passed his medical 25/04/16. At that time he was living at 124 Joseph St., Chatham, ON.

Glenn enlisted in Chatham, ON with the 186th Overseas Battalion 28/04/16 at Chatham, ON. 5’ 8” tall, dark complexion, Brown eyes and Brown hair. He passed his medical 25/04/16. At that time he was living at 124 Joseph St., Chatham, ON.

Private William G. Galloway enlisted in Chatham with the 186th Bn. on 4/04/16 at Chatham, ON.  Glenn was hospitalized at the Military hospital in London, ON., admitted 7/06/16 exposure to gas and discharged 29/08/16.  He went overseas with them 26/03/17, proceeding to France, drafted to the 18th Battalion, September 29th, 1917.  Was with that unit until the war was over then went to Bonne Germany with the Army of Occupation and returned to England in April 1919 and to Canada in May 1919.

He went overseas with them 28/03/17 aboard the S. S. Lapland, sailing from Halifax.

He embarked at Halifax, NS, and proceeded overseas with the 186th Batt., 28/03/17 aboard the S. S. Lapland, sailing from Halifax. He arrived in England at Liverpool 7/04/1 

He arrived in Liverpool, England 14/05/17. Drafted to 18th Battalion 7/07/17 he went to France with the 18th Bn. 28/09/17  arriving at Estaples, France 28/09/17. He would have likely been with the 18thBattalion for the Battle of Passchendaele 9/12/11/17. He joined the Canadian Trench Mortor Battery 9/02/18 and move to the 4th Cdn. Light Trench Mortor 12/07/18.   He remained with that Battalion until the end of the war. Was assigned to Army of Occupation for six months going to Bonn, Germany until April of 1919 when he was returned to England and then to Canada landing in May of 1919. Glenn was discharged at London, ON. 24/05/1919 with demobilization, age 21 years.

He arrived in Liverpool, England 7/04/17. Drafted to 18th Battalion 7/04/17 he went to France with the 18th Bn. 26/09/17

Following the Great War he was living on a farm on Highway No.3 but he and his wife lost the farm in the Great Depression. He had borrowed $500 from the bank  and then after some poor crops and could not repay the loan and as a result, they moved to Chatham.

Enlisted with the Veteran Guard in June of 1940 serving at New Sarum, near St. Thomas as a security guard until 29/03/1947. 

Glen passed away 22 December, 1949. MD-RH, IODE(P), NB, CDN 11/11/11, 10/11/12.

There is no attestation record on the LAC- Military File.
