Private Roy E. Furey entrained at Chatham March 22nd, 1917, embarking on the “Lapland” at Halifax March 25th. He landed at Liverpool April 7th, having struck a mine eight hours out of port. He trained at Bramshott from April 9th, to August 1st, 1917. In May 1917, he won the Cross Guns at Longmoore Rauge, with the highest score in the Battalion, and was highly recommended by his Colonel for sniper. August 1st. he volunteered for the Signalling Section and October 1917, volunteered for immediate overseas service. January 4th, 1918, he proceeded to France as Signaller. and was attached to the 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion, he spent about 9 days in NO.2 Field Ambulance suffering from poisoning in right hand due to poison gas received in action.
Discharged 23rd March 1919 due to demobilisation.
