He was serving in France with an anti-tank unit in France in August of 1944. Pastor Rev. Hugh W. Stewart of the Chatham Baptist Church received a letter from Pte. Fullerton; saying he was “getting along O.K. though it is sometimes hard going.” He added that “they have to be very careful as the Huns were there ahead of them four years and acquired some friends who prove dangerous snipers”.
Also enclosed with the note was tree poppies picked in Normandy.
