Son of Mr. George and Isobel Minnie Francis of 79 Edgar St., Chatham, ON. Prior to his enlistment Charles worked in Fort Erie and before that he farmed in Kent Co.
Charles was reported wounded for the second time while in action in Italy, he was first wounded in September of 1944. Charles enlisted in 1943 at the time he was working in Fort Erie, prior to that he was doing farm work in Kent County. At the time the Irish Regt. of Canada was part of the British Eighth Army in Italy, Charles was 28 years old when he was wounded for the second time while serving in Italy. At the time of his second injury he was a member of the British 8th Army and was being treated in a British hospital in Italy. CDN 19/01/45 / 23/10/44.
Trained in Canada over two years. Went overseas and saw action in France, Holland Germany and Italy. Was wounded twice in Italy.
Discharged April 1946.
