The DT 22/04/43 reported that LAC Fox was training to be a navigator at RCAF-Regina, SK when he was in Dresden to visit his grandmother Mrs. James Fox of Dresden. The article went on to say he “hoped to be a navigator of a bomber before this thing is over?, The DT 8/07/43 reported that his grandmother Mrs. James Fox had received from Gerald that he had passed his mid-term exams and was second in a class of 25 with a 90% average. He was stationed at RCAF-Edmonton for this training.
Graduated as a navigator at # 2 Air Observer School in Edmonton, commissioned after graduation. Reported missing December 29th, 1944 after-air operations over France.
F/O Fox graduated at No. 2 Air Observer school in Edmonton and was commissioned shortly afterwards. He had been overseas for over a year when he was killed. The CDN 28/09/43 reported that Gerald had been promoted to Pilot Officer along with two others from Chatham-Kent.
Date of Death: 29/12/1944, in Lancaster bomber # PB 525 ; Pathfinder: Scholven/Buer, Germany, aircraft failed to return.
Reported MIA in January of 1945 was officially presumed dead 29/11/1945 by RCAF Headquarters. CDN 29/11/45(P).
He is survived by a brother Charles L. Fox serving in the Canadian army.
