Son of Mrs. H. Fox of Sedgeford, England. Albert was living in Blenheim, ON when he enlisted and left with the 24th Reg’t. 21/08/14 for Valcartier. Attestation: 23/08/1914 at Valcartier, PQ to the 1st BN. CEF.
Private Albert Fox left Chatham the latter part of August 1914, under Major George Smith, for Valcartier, proceeding overseas about September 27th, 1914. He arrived in England October 14th, and after four months training on Salisbury Plains crossed to France February 7th, on the “Architect” and landed at Lazare. He entrained for Merries, marched from there to Armentiers to the first tranches, back to Merries, from here to Fleaubaux, was in the trenches for the Battle of Neuve Chapple, March 10th, 1915, and after a short rest and a general inspection by General Smith Dorrein proceeded to the Ypres Salient. He crossed the border form France to Belgium Sunday noon, April 23rd, 1915, and was admitted to Hospital in Sheffield, where he was treated until August 17th. He later returned to Canada November 5th, 1915.
Private Albert Fox received his honorable discharge April 30th, 1916, being unfit for further military service, later taking up land at Colony Farm, Kapuskasing, New Ontario.
