The son of the late W. Floyd and  Mrs. W. Hutton of Windsor, ON.  A quiet wedding took place in Chatham in March 1942 between Pte. Lawrence Floyd and Anne May (nee Clark) of King St. W. Chatham, they had a baby son, at that time they resided at 143 1/2 King St. West, Chatham.  CDN 24/03/42  Lawrence had enlisted with the First Kents in 1939.

Pte. Floyd enlisted with the First Kents at mobilization in 1940, trained in Chatham, London, Halifax, British Columbia and Niagara-on-the-Lake. CDN Aug. 44  

Trained at Chatham, London, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Westminster B.C. and Terrace B.C. went overseas and served one year and four months in England. Went to France for sixteen days and then back to Canada.

He had arrived overseas in in March of 1943 as reinforcement and had transferred to the Essex Scottish Regt. It was while serving with the Essex Scottish that he was wounded on the battlefield.

Reported wounded in Normandy 21 July,1944. It had been three weeks since his wife had heard from her husband when she received “official notification” that her husband had been wounded in France on 7 July. “Pte. Lawrence Floyd wounded in action on 7th July. Extent of wounds unknown.” 

His wife and infant son Larry, age 15 months born two weeks after his father went overseas. They were residing with her parents.  

Floyd passed away 24 April, 1995.
