Born 23/07/1910 at Wallaceburg, ON. Son of Thomas R. and of Effie May Fish (nee Taylor), of 305 Murray St., Wallaceburg; brother of Rev. Capt. James (US Army), Jack (US Army) serving in New Guinea, Norman, Donald, Guy of Detroit, Michigan and Evelyn living at her parent’s home.
William attended D. A. Gordon Public School and then Wallaceburg High School. He was a member of No.2 Scout Troop and later the Rovers. After graduation William entered the work force at the Canada & Dominion Sugar Co. in Wallaceburg.
In 1940 William enlisted with the 1st Kents, his brothers James and Jack joined the US Army at the same time. William trained at Chatham at BTC #12, London, Halifax, New Westminister and Terrace BC. He then transferred to the Essex Scottish, going overseas in May of 1943.
The WN 23/03/44 reported that Pte Fish was on ‘active service. It was while serving with the Essex Scottish in France shortly after D-Day that Pte. Fish was felled by a German snipers bullet at the age of 34.
Age: 34, he was KIA – Date of Death: 27/08/1944.
