Born 17 October, 1917 the son of Mr. Francis “Frank” Israel and Mrs. Agnes May (Drury) Field of 87 Hillyard St., Chatham, ON. The brother to Harold William (V51318), Stanley Lyle (A470294), Mary Gladys, Edyth Pearl, Francis Lloyd, Margaret and another male [not identified]. Harry was born in Chatham and attended McKeough public school and Chatham Collegiate Institute. Married to Leona (nee Heyninck) they had a son and were living at 201 Selkirk St., Chatham, ON. Harry enlisted in the 2nd Bn. Kent Regt., as a Pte. A470293; Appears on the “Muster Roll” of the 2nd Bn., Kent Regiment, (MG), N.P.A.N. (date unknown).
On 15/02/1941 Harry Gordon married Leona Cecila (nee Heynick) at Blessed Sacrament Church in Chatham. Harry and Leona would have five children William Harry, Linda Ann, Robert Joseph, Elizabeth Mary and Daniel Louis.
Harry enlisted in the 2nd Bn. Kent Regt., as a Pte. A470293; Appears on the “Muster Roll” of the 2nd Bn., Kent Regiment, (MG), N.P.A.N. (date unknown).
In 1945. Harry had a brother Harold in the RCNVR; Leona had two brothers, Cpl. R. J. in the Perth Regt. and Trp. L. F. in the Tank Regt. Prior to the war Sgt. Field was employed at the Ontario Steel Plant and is on their roll of honour.
Harry joined the Oxford Rifles in London, ON. in May of 1942 at the age of 27. He trained at London, Prince George, and Nanaimo BC. He later instructed at Kingston and Wainwright, AL. He was reported as serving overseas in the CDN 26/01/45(P). The CDN 19/11/45(P) reported that Sgt. Harry Field of the Essex Scottish arrived in Canada aboard the Queen Elizabeth.
Harry passed away 14 September 1986 at St. Joseph Hospital, Chatham, and was buried in Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham as reported in the Legion Magazine “Last Post”.
