Born in Chatham, ON.  The son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Ferren of 33 King St. West, Chatham, ON. He attended McKeough School. Prior to his enlisting in the Navy at 18 years old he was employed at the Chrysler Co., in Chatham.    Husband of Dorothy Barbara (Roesch), CDN 25/11/47. The father of James, Jack and Cathy.

Bruce enlisted in the RCNVR in May of 1942 at HMCS Hunter, Windsor, ON. He trained in Windsor and Halifax, NS., where he was posted to duties at sea in March of 1943.  Bruce had been serving overseas. He saw action in Arctic seas and the North Atlantic and was in action on D-Day. [unidentified news article]. While aboard HMCS Huron he was patrolling the English Channel. The HMCS Huron had sunk 21 ships and damaged 27 others “to the credit of her crew.”

The CDN 16/09/44 reported that Seaman Ferren after 18 months on active service  and arrived in Halifax and would be home soon. He arrived on the noon train and was met by a “grand welcoming committee”.

Discharged November 21st, 1945.

Bruce passed away in 1999. IODE(P).
