Gunner William Ray Fenton trained during the summer of 1918 with the C.F.A. at Camp Petawawa; was transferred in September with the Artillery Division to the 2nd. Canadian Tank Battalion and sailed from Quebec for overseas October 5th, 1918. he was in England at the time of the signing of the Armistice and left for Canada December 5th, 1918.
Regimental number: 3131037. The youngest son of J. William. Fenton and Ellen of Highgate, Kent Co., ON., the brother of James Anderson also of Highgate. A single School Teacher

At some time (not noted) William was living at 70 Barber St., Torington, Conn., USA
He joined the Cdn. Tank Battalion trained at Camp Petawawa 30/05/18. William was appointed L/Cpl 25/02/18. Transferred to the 2nd Tank Batt. 20/09/18. He embarked from Canada 2/10/18 and arrived in England 18/10/18. Needless to say the war was all but over. There is no record of William crossing overseas to France.
He returned to Canada aboard the S. S. Minnedoss arriving 14/12/18. He was granted a 80 cent sub-allowance from 16/0/19 “Home Coming Furlough”. He was discharged from the Army 8/01/1919. Gunner William Ray Fenton received his discharge January 8th, 1919, due to demobilisation.
It is not clear of his “Principal Instructor of the Vocational Department of Military Convalescent Hospital for Returned Soldiers” at Moose Jaw, Sask.
Information from Aaron Fenton reported that William Ray taught aet in Boston, MA. Married Flora (nee Finlayson). She sang opera while Ray painted.
Ray Fenton passed away 11 April, 1953 and Flora died 1 Dec. 1968. Both are buried in Prospect Cemetery, St. Clair Ave., West Toronto, ON.
