Son of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Fair of 117 Stanley Ave., In 1943 they were living on Raleigh St. in Chatham, ON. Enlisted in the RCAF in November 1942. Trained in Edmonton, Calgary and Fingal, ON.
The CDN 28/04/43 reported that Leslie was returning to No.2 Wireless School at Calgary after a nine-day furlough to visit his parents in Chatham.
Three months in the Bahamas before going overseas in February, 1944.
In February 1944 was posted overseas and served in Hebrides for about a year. Promoted to Pilot Officer he was later posted to England where he was promoted to Warrant Officer 2.
The CDN 1/02/45(P) Reported that Les had been promoted to WO2 and had been in active service for some time. This came by letter to Mr. and Mrs. Fair. He had been promoted to Flight Sergeant and after a leave to Scotland and northern England he was further promoted to WO2.
Les remained active in track & field events. At a Canadian meet at Stratford-on-Avon he came in third in the mile race, first in the broad jump and third in the hop-step-and jump. After the presentation of medals. he was congratulated by the officer presenting the medals.
At another field meet he was first in high-jump and second in the 220 and 440 race.
Les served overseas for eighteen months. He was reported as back in Chatham on a “short leave” at his parents home. CDN 13/08/45(P)
