Unit # Kent Regt. / Highland Light Infantry

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Evans of Chatham.

Ernie enlisted with the Kent Regt. in 1940 for training in Canada. He went overseas in a draft of men in June of 1943. Once in Britain he transferred to the H.L.I. His parents had not heard from their son in some time when they received a letter. He said it had been impossible to write sooner. The H.L.I. was involved in the Normandy invasion.

In his letter Ernie reported that he was involved with the invasion troops now in France. “Everything is fine an there is no need for worry.
