Fred was from Wheatley. He enlisted in the Canadian Armoured Corps in March 1945, and had basic training in Chatham.  He had surgery and rehab in Hamilton and Brampton until July 1945.  Thomas was on draft to South Carolina for Japan when it was cancelled due to the drop of the atom bomb and ended the war.  He received an automatic discharge on December 1945 at under the age of 19.

Thomas was born in 1927 and died in 2015.
