He took courses in training including B.F. and P.T., Musketry, N.C.O.’s and Lieutenant’s, passing all successfully.
Sergeant Eberlee transferred from the 91st to the 186th battalion in Feb. 1916.
There was a “Medical Board” held at Chatham, ON. 6/03/17. (There seemed to be no particulars?). Form of Will” entered while in the 186th Bn. – Personal estate to Mr. Charles Eberlee of Dresden, ON.27/02/1917
With 186th Bn. CEF, 28/02/16 – 1/04/17 for overseas Bn. Unit to sail 28/03/17. George had attended “School of Instructions at London, ON.14/12/15. He made Sgt. 10/01/16, transferred to the 186th for overseas Bn. 28/02/16
He embarked from Canada from Halifax, NS. 25/03/17 aboard the S.A. Lapland. Debarked at England – Liverpool 7/04/17. He held his acting rank of CSM from his date of arrival in England. 7/04/17. He reverted to the rank of Acting Sgt. at his own request.
He went overseas Mar. 26, 1917 and after training at Bramshott, proceeded to France Mar. 1, 1918 reverting to Private with the 58th battalion.
6/08/17 George transferred to the 119th Bn. TOS., 11/08/17. Proceeded for service overseas 7/31/18 – Landed in France, TOS 58TH BN. 13/04/18. While A/Sgt he had contacted Impetigo and was treated at the 11th Cdn. Field AMB. 14/05/18
Date of Service 7/03/18 with the 58th Bn. – France. KIA: 23/04/18
While at this post he was killed in action Apr. 23, 1918.
An article in the CTW 12/11/13 “Remembering a brother who died before he was born.” Reported on a talk given by Ross Eberlee (a veteran of WWII (Navy) to Rotarians, about his brother George Killed in the Great War. Ross’s father Charles died in 1935 when Ross was eight. A few months later Ross mother received a letter from F. A. Hollingworth.
Hollingworth served with George in the 58th Battalion and was there when George was killed. He died in France 23/04/18 during a night action on the line. According to Hollingworth his death was quick and he did not suffer. He was buried near the village of St. Piere.

Ross and his wife Lois went to visit George in 1977 and they eventually found his grave.
