Of Ridgetown, Howard Twsp., Kent Co. ON. Joseph attended public school, high and vocational school in Ridgetown. The son of the late Mrs. Pearl Downey (she passed away 5/02/45), the brother of Fancis and sister Naomi both lived in Ridgetown. He attended public school, High and Vocational school in Ridgetown. A member of St. Michaels Catholic Church.
Joseph enlisted in 1942 and received his basic training at BTC No.12 in Chatham, ON. He went overseas in September of 1943, he went to France in July of 1944.
The CDN 16/03/45 reported that Pte. Downey was the third Ridgetown serviceman to be killed in the past ten days, WO. Glen D. McVicar and P/O. John Kerr Andrews also lost their lives.
Age: 32, KIA – Date of Death: 02/03/1945, in Holland.
