Private Herbert T. Down trained with the 91st. Battalion, leaving St. Thomas for overseas June 25th, 1916. In the counterattack at Vimy Ridge May 10th, 1917, he received Shrapnel wounds in the right elbow; received hospital treatment in England; and returned to France September 12th, 1917. He received shrapnel wounds in the left leg at Ypres, November 6th, 1917, crossed to England November 12th, and was admitted to hospital at Exeter, Devon, Transferred to Canadian Convalescent Hos Monks Horton, Kent, transferred to 3rd Canadian Command at Sleaford Sussex February 21st 1918. Transferred to 6th. Battalion and from there to Kimmel Park Rhyl December 3rd 1918. Embarked at Liverpool for Canada December 12th and arrived at Halifax December 19th 1918. He was promoted to Corporal March 1st 1919.
Discharged at London July 25th 1919 due to demobilisation.
