From Wallaceburg, ON. The son of Mrs. D. D. Gordon of Port Lambton. He was married. From Wallaceburg, ON., but was well in known both Chatham and Wallaceburg. He was the nephew of A. C. Gordon MLA for West Kent.
The care of the wounded had come a long way, helped by the experiences of the Great War. While standing in the turret of his tank as they were passing through a Sicillian village after the invasion of Sicily. A sniper in an effort to disable the tank by killing the commander (Lieut. Gordon) his bullet did not kill the officer but the bullet passed through his jaw shattering the bone.
The original story appeared in the Wnidsor Star, the photo shows a dentist treating Liet. Gordon, still in bandages. In the text: “Lieut. Gordon was now eager and anxious to go back into action despite the fact that the dentist is still working on him.” WD 18/11/43
Curator Note: – I expect the young Lieutenant would rather be taking on a company of Germans rather than a single dentist.
The CDN 15/08/44 reported that Capt. Gordon who was wounded in Italy and was in hospital for nine months was on his way home.
