Born at Walpole Island, ON. in 1894. Son of Lightning Dodge. Attended Wallaceburg High School. Brother of William, Simon, Louise (Oliver) and Effie (Tobias).  Enlisted in the US Navy at Detroit, Michigan in 1914 and transferred to the US Army, AEF in 1917 then going overseas to France. KIA 19/05/1918. Buried in a French military cemetery.

In 1920 permission was obtained from U. S. officials to have his body removed from France and returned to Walpole Island, he was reburied at Walpole Island Anglican Cemetery
