Pte. Dingman trained with the 186th battalion in Canada, going overseas the tatter part of Mar. 1917.
He proceeded to France in Oct. transferring to the 4th Canadian Labour Battalion and later to the 11th Canadian Railway Troops.
He was admitted to the Military Hospital at Bramshott and discharged 14/09/17 at Bramshott
His will was to Mrs. Murphy Dingham, Chatham, ON. 29/02/17. Left Canada 25/03/17 from Halifax aboard the S.S.Lapland and arrived in England 7/04/17 at Liverpool.
7/04/17 at Bramshott 20/04/17 to the 4th Res. TOS from Canada. Date of service in France 21/09/17, to 43rd Cdn. Bn. KIA: While walking from his camp to the nearby canteen together with a companion on the evening of 10 August, 1918, he was hit by shrapnel from an enemy shell and killed.
Upon his death his wife was given the Memorial Cross as his widow 11/08/1920, The Memorial Scroll 7/02/21 and the Plaque 27/10/1921. At the time Bertha was living at 71 King St. Chatham.
