Private Richards H. Dennis, Jr, enlisted with the 1st. Battalion, and was sent to Bermuda to relieve the Regulars for overseas service, going later to England. he proceeded to France in November, 1915, and during heavy fighting June 9th, 1916, he received wounds in the knee. He returned to the trenches, November 8th, 1917; received promotion to the Lance Corporal and one month later to Corporal. In the engagement at Amiens, August 14th, 1918, he was severely wounded in the right hand, necessitating the removal of the ends of the index and middle fingers and the thumb. he received hospital treatment in Manchester from August 18th. to November 6th; was removed to Epsom Convalescent Hospital and to Buxton Discharge Depot December 13th. He embarked from Liverpool January 27th, 1919, arriving at Halifax February 2nd, 1919. He then received one month’s hospital treatment at Wolseley Barracks, London.
Corporal Richard H. Dennis, Jr. received his discharge May 12th, 1919, being medically unfit for further military service.
