The son of  Mr. and Mrs. James Dell of 28 Montgomery Dr., Wallaceburg. He had six sisters Mrs. Sidney Stout, Mrs. Ray Wark, Flora, Edna and Mavis all living in Wallaceburg. He also has a brother Ronald Frank (F/O) who is serving with the RCAF, stationed overseas. The Wallaceburg News reported that Sgt. (WAG) had graduated from RCAF No.9 Gunnery School at Mont Joli, P.Q.

Oliver was born in Chaplain SK. and went to school there and at Moose Jaw. In 1942 the family moved back to Wallaceburg when his father was born . Oliver found work at the Sarnia Rubber Plant.

Oliver enlisted in August of 1943 at Montreal and trained at Lachine, PQ. before going to Mont Joli.
