The son of Mr. John Decedar and the late Mrs. Decedar of 64 ½ St. Clair St., Chatham. (a veteran of the Great War serving with the 186th Batt.) Nelson was the youngest of five sons. Age 22 years old a former farm employee.

Nelson enlisted in the First Kent’s in April 1942 and trained with the regiment in Chatham, London, Camp Borden and Halifax where he left for overseas 

On the 15th of July his father received word from the Minister of National Defence stating that his son had been wounded in battle on 19 July the extent of his injury. Still more recently it was reported that his injuries where a compound fracture of the right femur and no improvement had been shown. The CDN 26/07/44 reported that his father had received a message from the Minister of Defence that his son was badly wounded while serving in France.In his most recent letter from his son Tpr. Deceder said that he was in good health and wished he were able to be home for his forthcoming birthday. “After the war he hopes to buy a small farm on which he and his father can work and health and prosperity”.   

Was wounded in France and came back to hospitalization in Canada.
