A Bookkeeper. Served with the 72nd Regt.in BC. Attestation: 28/09/1915 at Vancouver. Age: 21 years. Height: 5’7 3/4”, Girth: 37” Complexion: Fresh, Eyes: Grey, Hair: Brown. Medical 22/09/15 at Vancouver, BC. “Fit”. Donald was promoted from L/ Cpl. to acting Sergeant 27/08/15 and Sergeant 25/09/15
While at Hasting Park, Donald came down with Grippe and was hospitalized from the 27 to 30/03/16 in the hospital.
Donald embarked at Halifax on 23/04/16 aboard the Empress of Britain. Arrived at Liverpool, England 4/05/16. He was promoted from L/ Cpl. to acting Sergeant 27/08/15 and proceeded for service overseas (France) 12/08/16 with the 72nd Batt. confirmed Sergeant 14/06/16 at Bramshott.
Donald was prone for childhood issues, 24/03/16 he was admitted to the Vancouver General Hospital for Acute Tonsillitis. After returning to duty 4/04/16 he came down with Measles returning to duty 15/04/16.
28/11/16 Donald was admitted to hospital suffering from Bronchitis, No. 3 Stationary Hospital and he died 28/11/16. The hospital reported that Sgt. Dawson was “Dangerously ill at No.3 Stat. Hospital – Roouen suffering from Bronchitis was cause of death – Bronchitis.
His mother Mrs. Rachel H. Dawson of 765 – 9th Ave., West, Vancouver, BC., received $180.00 ‘War Gratuity’ The Memorial Cross, his father the Memorial Plaque & Scroll
