Resident Wallaceburg

The son of George Dawe of Wallaceburg.

The WN (date unknown) reported that three men were serving aboard HMCS Huron during the D-Day invasion of Normandy. George was not the only Wallaceburg men honoured by the Mayor of Wallaceburg as AB Maurice DeVriese and AB Donald Spencer also served on HMCS Huron during the invasion 6 June, 1944.

The CDN  27/07/45 reported that after three years service as a naval gunner, much of it aboard HMCS Huron, one of the RCN’s ‘Tribal class destroyers on which he participated in several “actions”. WN 28/06/45 Home in Wallaceburg on leave, he volunteered for Pacific service. WN.
