Regimental number: 189486 Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 2311 – 12, Item: 345117, PDF:- B2311-SO12.  Date of Birth 31/12/1897 at Guernsey, Channel Island. Son of Mrs. G. Davey of  87 Emma Street, Chatham, ON., where William was living. His father was Mr. G. W. Davey.  A painter. (single) Attestation 29/11/1915 at St. Thomas, ON. to the 91st Bn. transferring to the 186th Bn. Certificate of Magistrate at St. Thomas 29/11/15 to 91st O/S Bn.

Apparent Age: 17 yrs. 11 mths, 5’3”, Girth: 34 ½”, Complexion: Fair Eyes: Blue, Hair: Light Brown, Weight: 125 #. Medical Exam: “Fit”. Date: 27/11/15 at Chatham, ON. Certificate of Officer Commanding 29/11/15 

Private William Davey enlisted in 91st Battalion November 1915, was transferred to 186th Battalion February 1916. Went to England March 22nd 1917 and joined 4th Res Battalion to France and joined the 18th Battalion February 24th 1918, was wounded and sent to England September 1st 1918, and invalided to Canada December 11th 1918.

Had 9 fillings when serving with the 18th Bn. for Dental Certificate. Transferred from the 91st O/S to the 186th  while at Camp Borden 28/02/16 to 7/0817.  

Taken on with stomach trouble 25/10/16 and by 28/11/16 had Appendicitis and treated 

Date of Service 22/02/18. Embarked Canada at Halifax 25/03/17 aboard the S.S. Lapland. Debarked – Liverpool, England 7/04/17. Transferred to 4th Cdn. Bn. – Bramshott 7/04/17. 23/02/18 with 4th Bn. Reserve O/S to 18th Bn. is SOS 4th Bn. 2/03.18 . Joined 18th Bn. 31/08/18 with 18th Bn. 31/08/18. 

1/09/18 William was reported a shell-wound (actually a shell explosion) 11/10/18 he had his right leg amputated the lower 1/3 of his right leg. 12/10/18 to 17/10/18 was admitted to the shell damage and recovered very well When all healed he was transferred to Buxton 3.12/18 and was transferred to Canada to No. 5 Cdn. Mil. Hospital – Liverpool awaiting transport to Canada. He was transferred to Davisville Hospital when he arrived in Toronto for his artificial foot – Disc. from H.M.S., as Medically unfit. The SYMES operation had performed well and had healed in three weeks. 7/12/18 invalided to Canada.

Discharged 22/07/1919 (9/7/19 to 22/07/19) S297689880 – Separation Allowance 110/5.40 +70.00 Substance .80 35.00. Balance Credit $ 120.20 to Mrs. Alice Davey, 87 Emma St. Chatham,

 He was reported wounded in Sept.1918.  Discharged medically unfit July 21st 1919, amputation of right foot at ankle.

A letter from the Dept. of Veteran’s Affairs – re: Davey, William 189486 dated 3/12/63 had died 30/11/63 at Westminister Hospital, London, ON. (Case History 30/01/1919 to June 3, 1919).
