The son of Joseph and Gertrude (nee Blakeman) Dauphin of St. Clair st., Chatham,ON., brother of Murray, and twin of Jack, Douglas, Donna (Legue) and Rhoda (Torrance).
Joseph enlisted with the Canadian Fusiliers in the Reserve Army. He trained at BTC No. 12 in Chatham, Listowell. Joseph was reported to be visiting his parents on Van Allen Ave., in Chatham while on a weekend leave from Listowel. CDN 14/03/42. He also served at and at Niagara-on-the-Lake before going to British Columbia. He served on Kiska Island in the Aleutian Islands. He had been stationed at Kiska into January of 1944 when he was reported in the CDN 31/01/44 being home on a few weeks furlough at his parents home on St. Clair St. In June of 1942 he was stationed in Vernon, BC., with the Canadian Fusilers. CDN 1/06/42. In October of 1942 Joseph and his wife arrived in Chatham for a ten day visit with Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dauphin on a leave from Victoria, BC.on St. Clair Street. CDN 15/10/42.
He served on Kiska Island in the Aleutian Islands in 1942.
In May of 1944 Pte. Dauphin went on active service and in June was serving with the Canadian forces in France attached to the Black Watch. It was reported in the CDN 1/09/44, that on 26 August he had been wounded. The CDN of Sep. 1944 still was not able to report on the nature of is injuries.
The husband of Norma (nee Antaya), father of Gary, Susan (Verburg) and Mark (2001). Joe and Norma farmed in McKays Corners, Dungannon and Glencoe, ON. After retiring from farming he golfed and was a member of Legion Branch 628, Chatham.
Joseph passed away 11 February, 2015 at the age of 94 years, interment at the Arnold Cemetery, Chatham-Kent, ON. CDN-Obit 12/02/15.
