Born in 1924 at Detroit, Michigan, the son of Ernest and Lucy Custance of 24 St. George St., Chatham, ON.
Jack enlisted in the Kent Regt 21/02/43 transferred to the RCAF in Toronto, ON., training at the Manning Depot, Toronto, Branden Manitoba, the Eglington Hunt Club, part of an experimental unit and Lakeside, Verdun Manitoba. The CDN 18/09/43 had reported that AC2 Custance was on furlough at his home on St. George St. He would be leaving for Belleville to continue his training. As a Flt. Sgt. he received his wings 27/10/44.
It was reported in the CDN 2/11/44 that he arrived in Chatham on a twenty-eight day furlough to visit with his mother and sister living in Chatham on St. George Steet. He had received his ‘Wings’ the prior Friday. Jack served in Canada only. He was discharged from the RCAF 25/10/1945.
