Cummings, George Clifford A

 

Born in Dresden, ON. the son of Silas Cummungs of Dresden. A single bookeeper, he was living in London, ON., at 78 ½ Dundas St. Attestation 2/11/1915 at London, ON. to the 70th O.S. Bn. at the age of 18 years, 5 months.

Private George C. Cumming trained six months in London, Ontario, going overseas April 23rd, 1916. He proceeded to France, and received wounds in the head June 23rd, 1917. He joined the Battalion in September 1917, and was again wounded in the back and ankle October 28th, 1917, and returned to England. He served for 22 months in France, including Somme, Ipres, Lens and Passchendale. Was wounded at Passchendale by shrapnel in the left lung and ankle but did not make blighty, was wounded the 2nd time and sent to Warrington Hospital, then to Buxton, he returned to Canada July 14th, 1918.  George was discharged Medically unfit 14/07/1918 CDP 10/11/1917, IODE (P).

Discharged September 1918 unfit for further military service.

He didn’t make it to Blighty????
