Cumming, Gordon Slade

 

Born 2/10/1900 at Chatham, ON., the first born to Neil Thomas and Fannie (nee Slade), the brother to Kenneth, Robert and John. Gordon graduated from the University of Toronto with an M. D. in 1926 and returned to Chatham to practice Medicine. In 1934 he married Beatrice Eleanor Margaret (nee Scott) and they were living at 61 Park St. West in Chatham.

Dr. Cumming enlisted in the army as a private soldier 19/06/1942.The CDN 8/02/43 reported had recently arrived in England according to his wife at 61 Park Ave. West,  and is reported to have served overseas arriving back in Chatham in April 1944. The CDN 5/04/44 reported that 45 year old Gordon  S., Pte. served more than a year overseas.

He was given ‘royal welcome’ home by his wife and son Donald then 6 years old and other family members and friends.

In 1954 Dr. Cumming is reported living in Toronto, ON. He passed away in September 14, 1972.
