He had been on a training course at Toronto, ON. He would be rejoining the Kent Regt. then in Western Canada. Len was with the Intelligence Department of the Headquarters Company. CDN 10/04/42 (P).
Served with the Kent Regiment from 1937 to August 1940.
Served in Canada. Transferred to the Essex Scottish Regiment as a flame-thrower and saw action in Italy, France, Belgium and Germany. Cpl. Cross was reported wounded for the second time “since July while fighting overseas.” A flame-thrower his first wound was on 1/07/44 andf the second 4 October, 1944 a shrapnel wound. [unidentified article]. He has three wound stripes and was hospitalized in Canadian General Hospital in England. Promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

The CDN 26/10/44 reported that Cpl. Cross had been wounded for the second time since July while fighting overseas. He was wounded 1 July, and his second wounds on 4 October from shell fragments. It was reported that he was a flame-thrower, which may have something to due with his weapon.
