Regimental number: 931699. Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992 – 93/166, Box: 2161-54, Item No.: 126656, PDF: B2161-S054. Date of Birth: 12/03/1895 at Chatham, ON. The son of William Crosby. Next of Kin: Mrs. Hazel Crosby (wife) of 47 Degge St., Chatham, The father of Willie (age 2) and Beatrice (2yrs/3mos.). A laborer age 21 yrs. 9 Mos. ( 5” 5” / 126 lbs./ Dark complexion / Brown eyes /  Black hair. Reported “Medically Fit”.   

Attestation: No. 2 Construction Batt. departed Halifax, NS. 5/03/17, arrived Liverpool, England 7/04/17, a After minimal training in England he was transferred overseas to France 17/05/17 aboard S. S. Southland.

Private Herbert H. Crosby went overseas with the No. 2 Construction Battalion March 6th, 1917. Crossed to France May 1917 and joined the Canadian Forestry Corps, he remained there for six months when he was transferred to the Entrenching Corps from there he was sent to a hospital as orderly until he was sent back to Canada after the armistice was signed.

Admitted to Jura La Joux Hospital – Champagnole, with Myulgra. Discharged well 16/11/17. Transferred to England 11/12/18 to Bramshott.

Returned to Halifax, NS. aboard the S.S. Olympia 17/01/1919. Discharged  8/02/1919 – DEMOBIZATION. Received the British War and Victory medal. Granted a furlough 20/01/1919 and given a sustenance allowance 5/02/1919. His address on discharge was Mount Forest, ON 

Discharged at London February 8th, 1919 due to demobilization.

 

 

Herbert Henderson Crosby died 22/10/1966 at Toronto, ON.
