“Evisceration of Eyeball:”- 15th 06/1915 at Cycinchy: “While making a charge on the night of the 18th June, a German bomb burst in front of him and he was struck in the LEFT EYE, was enucleated on the 29th of June in FRANCE. – Injury to his Left Eye: in ACTIVE SERVICE.

– The left eye being badly injured that removal was necessary – left eye is missing having been enucleated in France – In Action. 18/07/1915. Unfit for even home light duty – 3/07/15 – Absence of LEFT EYE:- Royal Infrium – Edenborough 

It was reported that George had been wounded in action loosing an eye and had thirteen gun shot wounds and he was in Bothwell on furlough in November, 1915. BT 25/11/15, M. Matt, LAC.
