Pte. Cragg sailed for England the taller part of May 1915 where he remained until proceeding to France in the spring of 1916.

He served as Driver in the Artillery for a short time and was later made gunner in the Trench Mortar Group.

In the summer of 1917 he won distinction for bravery and was presented with the Military Medal and was made Corporal.
