Resident Chatham

Regimental number: 33024 Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 2091 – 54 Date of Birth 14/12/1886 at Chatham, ON. His next of kin is listed as J. E. Coyne of 4 Third Street, Chatham, ON. John  was working as a chauffeur prior to the war. He had been a member of “D” Company of the 24th Kent Regt. for eighteen months. Attestation: 23/09/1914 at Valcartier to the 1st Bn 

Rather than departing with the infantry from Chatham, John left on the 18th with the XIV Field Ambulance for their camp at Long Branch, ON. From there they went to Valcartier before leaving with the 1st Contingent.  

It was reported in the Chatham Daily Planet 17/05/1916 that “Jack” who had been recently reported as wounded at the front was sufficiently recovered to return to the Ambulance Corps, he had been in England recovering.
